In this video, I review and testing two vintage Hults Bruk Agdor axes.
The Agdor line used to be their premium of axes and goes all the way back to the beginning of the forge. Although it no longer is a premium line it is still made for the North American market. Both are boys axes. Which is probably the best size for general use.
The idea of finding and restoring an old axe head is not only nostalgic and cost-efficient. It also has the added benefit of an overall better-designed axe than many modern axes. These old Hults Bruk axes are thin with a high center and phantom bevels giving them proper performance. The American pattern head combined with hard Swedish steel gives you a tool that will serve you well.
To finish off, the heads were hung on genuine HB handles which are made by Smedburgs. They are the exact same handle and manufacturer that are used on Gransfors Bruks axes.
During testing the axes performed with flying colors. Even with such a light head and relatively short handle they made short work notching a log. Much quicker and with less effort than their current competition.
Overall these axes are a pleasure to use. If you happen to stumble across one, for a reasonable price, buy it. Don’t think about it. Just buy it.
